Retrax Pro MX Tonneau Cover 80373

I want to lead in by saying i am a professional skilled trades person, master electrician and know my way around a tool box. So I have every reason to believe that I installed this product as it is intended from the manufacturer and not user error on the install. During my initial unboxing the tonneau cover looked like it was of good quality. However, as i was taking it out of the box and starting the installation, i noticed a big scratch on the top and on the cannister. This thing does seem like it will scratch easily. In auto accessories garage defense i have not contacted them about this issue yet. I did the install myself and it went pretty well, about an hour (ish). I have done the soft tonneau cover installation several times in the past, but not something like this. It was not to difficult as the directions that came with it and the online videos are pretty descriptive. I have a 2020 F150 5 1/2 ft bed, and the cover fit like it was supposed to. I did learn that if you have a drop in bed liner, you will have to cut the front corners out of the liner to make the tonneau cannister fit, to allow it to slide up to the front. Once I got the cover installed and fully completed, I had to drill holes in my truck bed to accommodate the drain holes for the cannister. No big deal if you do not have a plastic liner as you could easily see the removable plugs to drill out. With the plastic liner I couldnt really see mine. After i got the whole thing installed, I was liking it eventhough it does take up a great deal of bed space at the bulkhead. You can get a sheet of plywood or drywall in the bed under it. Like i said, i was liking it until it rained that night. I quickly found out if you open the cover with water on it, the top retracting in will push the water out the back of the cannister and right into your truck bed. The cannister will collect some and go out the drain tubes, however, most will go in your bed. I called tech support at retrax to ask about this just in case i missed something during the install. I was told that in order to stop this from happening, i have to dry the cover off first before opening it. Kinda hard to do when it is raining out. So the very thing that i spent $1800 plus on to protect my tools and keep them dry, is getting my tools soaking wet. The other option retrax gave me was to make and install some type of back panel for the cannister to stop the top from pushing water out the back and into the bed. Believe me, when i say it is pushing water, it is a waterfall down the bulkhead when retracting the top. My tools were soaked. Again, i shouldnt have to fabricate parts for what is supposed to be a cadillac of tonneau covers at $1800 a pop. I will say this cover does provide better security for my tools, it cant be cut like a soft tonneau. Really though, what good is security if your tools and everything else in the bed get soaked by water. Overall, I thought this cover was going to be a better solution for me, it really turned out to be a very expensive bitter dissapointment that i am going to most likely return.

Love my Remax Pro MX. Looks great on my 2016 King Ranch F150. Went through car wash with only a tiny bit of moisture inside the tailgate. Dry everywhere else. Was able to help my husband lift on truck bed. Most time spent tweaking adjustments. I'm 5'2" and can open/close and lock by myself.
