In the mid-1950s, a man named Basil Smith, known to his close friends as "Smitty", started the small machine shop Rock-ett Products from the relative obscurity of his garage. A four-wheel drive enthusiast, he set out to develop equipment and accessories for trucks and Jeeps. Years later his son Tom began working with him, at which point they changed the name of the business to Smittybilt.

Tom, being exposed to the four-wheel lifestyle all his life, had an intuitive ability to create new and innovate products geared towards every aspect of the industry, including the burgeoning aftermarket scene. Tom created the original "nerf bar" side step, as well as tubular front and rear bumpers for Jeeps. Today, the company proudly supplies over 2,000 different kinds of innovative truck and SUV accessories, and they are far from done, making it a point to stay in touch with market trends to stay at the forefront of engineering and design.

When you do business with Smittybilt, you do business with a company that all but established the forefront of their industry. When you get Smittybilt, as they say, you "Get the Original".
