Once I understood the concept about fishing the bolts and plates through the frame channel the installation went pretty quickly: I was a little slow to catch on. I think the hitch will more than adequate to hold my yakima bike rack.

I am very pleased with this product for use with my bike rack. It was very easy to install on my C-Max Energi and took less than an hour working by myself. I was concerned about drilling holes in the frame, but it was an easy job. I was able to avoid the step that required grinding the frame access holes by grinding a small flat on the carriage bolt heads so they would fit through the access holes. The installation looks great, and is virtually invisible.

This receiver was easy to install, especially after I watched the video on You Tube. Hint: remove the spare tire. No problem with holes lining up. One thing to be aware of, also: it requires a 1/2 hex bit to attach. I didn't have one in my collection and it took a while to find one. I ended up ordering one from Sears. Northern Tool also carries one but not in my local store. It would have been an order, too.

I LOVE my new hitch! It looks great and I can tell it will be great to use. Aside from one smashed finger from my hand slipping off the ratchet during the bolt tightening process (and a few challenges getting the hitch in place because I did the whole installation myself), everything turned out great and I save at least $400 compared with having it installed at the dealer.

I had one problem, the nuts where rusty on the vehicle and could not start the bolts. Had to use a tap for them to work. As for the hitch installation itself went very good would have only been under 30min.

The cross bolts had to be inserted with the nuts on the outside. Had to insert a couple of washers between the hitch and the frame. The frame bolts needed were 10mm x 1.25 pitch, the supplied bolts did not fit.

It was helpful to see the installation instructions on-line before purchasing. The shipping was very quick. No drilling or cutting was required to install on my new Cruze 2012 1LT. The fishwire to pass the mounting bolts down the mounting channels worked quite easily, and the holes lined up very nicely. Two persons might work better for holding the hitch up in place during installation, but I did it alone using some blocks. The hitch construction is very sturdy. I am very pleased.

If I knew it was this easy I would have did it 3 years ago. Watch the video it helps and lube all bolt holes good and I used one of the old bolts to clean out the hole that was empty.Also I had to remove the rivets in bottom of the bumper cover to use my air tools.

For starters this is a great hitch functionally. I bought it for my bike rack on my 2012 GLI. The hitch sits really low and I often bottom out. The box that was shipped was beat up pretty good. Luckily I don't have to buy hitches too often, but when I have I always buy Curt. -Mike

This was a breeze to install on my Mazda CX-7. 45 min tops. I installed it solo, and basically by crawling under the car without jacking it up. The hardest part was lowering the tail pipe, but that was only difficult due to the tight spot I was in. Curt even included the wire feeder that you pull the bolts through the frame with. I like that the hitch receiver is hidden under the bumper and very little shows. Keeps the lines clean for the rest of the SUV.

The hitch reciever was great and installed as I figured it would. The Euro ball mount does not fit a 2001 lincoln continental, it's about 2" to short. I also have a curt hitch with a standard mount, so I switched with owner of the lincoln. It was no problem.

Pretty easy to install. The hardest part was cutting the heat shield and that was done easily with metal shears. Everthing else just bolted on. The exposed hitch reciever does press upward on the plastic bumper deforming it some. A little trimming will fix that. I really wish the hitch was about another inch or two even higher (there is room under the bumper) . On the KIA Sorento it is a little low and shows below the bumper. Having it higher would then require the trimming of the bumper, but it would have made a very sexy looking install.

Pretty straight forward installation. Instructions say to drop the muffler but it's not really necessary. The plastic box on the passenger side needs to be taken off as well as the bracket above the box. I made it work, but there was a space on the passenger side where the bolt hooks in -- the spacer did not make contact with the frame and the hitch.

Very good quality part, all sealed and powdercoated. The fit wasn't as perfect as I'd hoped. For this particular Mini, you have to cut a hole in the back bumper cover - that hole is supposed to be in a plastic mesh area, the video showed this, but on my mini the hitch sat quite a bit lower, and I had to cut into the actual bumper as well. The box it shipped in wasn't well done, either. It was just 'floating' in the box, and during transit, the powdercoating had worn completely off the bottom of the receiver tube. I didn't have time to return it for another one, so I just installed it anyway.

Ordered Sunday, shipped Monday, received Tuesday-very nice considering free shipping. Used cardboard boxes to prop hitch up to the holes on RAV4's chassis. Took almost 2 hours to get first two of the supplied bolts in as they were extremely tight. (In fairness, the orig bolts from the tow hook were tight too - so I guess that is the design). Ended up driving to the corner garage to get him to put the final two bolts on. Machanic said he had to lubricate the bolts to get them to go in. Wish I knew that beforehand.

Looks great, easy to install. I did it myself with my 5 year old playing in the driveway. I had to prop up one side with a box initially until I had the pilot bolts in place. NOTE: I had a brand new 2010 FJ which is a little different than the diagrammed instructions: There are prethreaded holes which you need only to screw the bolts and washers to attach the hitch. YOU DO NOT NEED THE NUT as the bolts go from bottom up and you would not be able to access the nut inside the frame. The only bolt that requires the nut is the bolt using the fishwire" technique which goes TOP DOWN and requires a washer and nut on the on the bottom outside the frame. Again it was all very easy and I was done in about 45 minutes."

My trailer hitch installation required lowering the dual exhaust pipes, then using a small floor jack to lift the hitch in place above them. As I am hadicapped, I cannot do any lifting. Once in place, I was able to bolt it to the frame. It worked just fine. Note: I am 77 years old. The hitch carries my scooter rack. I am happy with my purchase.

Hitch looked in perfect condition out of the box. Installation was a problem. Holes did not line up on one side after bolts put in on 2 of the 3 mounting brackets. Required a large tree and a come along to pull the hitch about 1/4" into position. I don't know if it is Curt's error or if Honda changed or was sloppy on their specs.

I ordered this hitch from AutoAssessoriesGarage.com and it arrived really quick. I bought the hitch #12231 to mount on my 2001 Lexus LS430. I tried to install it mostly by myself with my brother helping to lift it while I screwed on the bolts. This hitch is designed too tight a fit and is impossible to install and match the bolt holes, even when leaving one side loosened to make slight adjustment. The rear of the hitch was smashing my gas tank as it was being bolted up so I had to remove the entire hitch and shave off about 1/4" off the back of the hitch. I used a dremel with the cutting wheel and it took about 30 minutes to cut and sand. I cut it in an angle going down just to clear the gas tank. I also repainted it black to match the rest of the hitch. I also enlarged the bolt holes using a dremel bit and made it slightly bigger to allow some play when installing. It took me 3 days to install and a total of 9 hours going back and forth due to not properly fitting. Make sure to add some WD40 to the bolt holes and to hand tighten before using a ratchet. This will prevent stripping of the bolt holes if it goes in slightly in an angle. I almost stripped one hole but backed off after I noticed it was not going into the hole perfectly straight. I installed one side without the washers so the bolts can be tightened up a little on one side in order to get the other side raised higher. The rubber muffler large O ring mounts makes it a little difficult to install. Once you get one side in without the washers, you can add the washers to the other side and install normally. Then remove the bolt without the washers, then add the washers to them and install. It's really a tight fit but once it's installed all is solid. I also used a torque wrench to torque all the bolts to spec. Just be prepared to do some modification if yours doesn't fit right. The dremel tool really helped a lot.

Lift the hitch in place and secure it with punches in the 4 mounting holes. 2. Fish the wire with bolts and washer attached 1 at a time through the frame and out the mounting hole. 3. Install nut on each bolt but do not tighten until all bolts are through. I fished all 4 bolts through and then lifted the hitch in to place. As I was pulling the fish wires through the hitch holes, the hitch slipped and sheared 1 of the wires off leaving the bolt inside the frame. It took me over an hour to get the bolt back out.

It didn't fit!!! I was really suprised when I was installing the hitch that it didn't fit. There are three points of contact-bolts on the left, tow ring, and bolts on the right. The holes didn't line up. And I was leaving on vacation in two days! All I wanted to use it for is a bike rack! Put it on with a couple of bolts missing and worried about it for 1600 miles.

I am very comfortable on all stages of auto repair, however the pre-drilled holes did NOT match the car. Modification was required, taking more time than anticipated. Poor Quality Control. Also had weld-over run, requiring filing to access draw-pin hole.

This is perfect for my SUV, a Montero, very easily installed, entirely accessible from back of vehicle, fully visible, and not difficult for the non-professional. Great for this vehicle which has a frame mounting point without even looking under the vehicle, but when examined underneath shows it spreads the load very well to the entire rear frame of the vehicle without numerous mounting points, as it essentially becomes part of the frame. Simplest hitch receiver of any I have seen, and quite sturdy. Mounts to the frame with just four very sturdy bolts in very few minutes with just a socket set. Could not be easier for the do it yourselfer.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver I purchased and installed on my '96 Chevy Suburban has been great. I had previously bought a competitor's product at a local auto supply store and it's statement of being a universal hitch and easy to install simply wasn't true. In contrast, the Curt hitch fit my Suburban perfectly from lining up the bolt holes to having a large hole cut out for the rivet on the chasis. The hitch angles did not match the frame of our car, so I had to do some changing. This made the hitch installation time 3-1/2 frustrating hours. I'm a certified mechanic with many tools, so I had the ability to make it work, but it WASN'T EASY. Now that it's done, it functions well, and we're glad to have the hitch receiver.

The best part of this hitch is that it looks great on the car. One really has to look to see that it has been added. It was fairly easy to put on the car. All the bolts lined up fine. It was helpful to use a floor jack to hold the hitch in place until the bolts could be tightened.

This receiver hitch is constructed very well. The installation on a 2010 Ram is a little tricky as the bolts have to be fished through the tubular frame but the instructions were clear and concise. The hitch they sell at the dealers cost over $450 and that did not include installation charge. If you ever used a wrench you shouldn't have any problems installing this product. Ecstatically it is pleasing to look at. It does not jet out like other hitches on the market. The only visible part of the Hitch is where the receiver attaches.
